I heard a sinister laughter in the darkness.

I woke up. But, I couldn’t move my body.

“Good evening, Yuuma-kun.”

Ah, it’s him.

I shifted my gaze to the side and saw an ominous shade. It was a dark presence in the shape of a human.

‘It’s been a while, Shinigami-san.’

My thoughts were promptly delivered to him as he gave me a reply,

“Yeah, it’s been a while. Hehe, you worked hard today. You rushed to Natsuhara Suzuno’s side as soon as you realized her condition, didn’t you?”

‘I kept my promise.’

“Yes.” he nodded. His afro shook as he did.

“But, don’t let your guard down yet. This isn’t the end of our contract.”

‘…I see.’

I saved Suzuno today, but it seemed like it wasn’t enough…

‘I’m only alive to protect Suzuno…’

I reaffirmed my stance on our contract and the shinigami smirked.

“Correct. Don’t forget that you’re alive now because of your contract with me. Don’t get too comfortable living your parasitic life.”

Parasitic.

Right, I was merely a parasite in the Yamaoka’s house.

No matter how good they treated me, I wasn’t a part of their family.

Also, I was about to die again soon.

For those two to worry about me…I couldn’t let that happen.

“You seem to have came to a conclusion.”

The shinigami smiled in satisfaction.

Ah, he truly was the shinigami. Nothing could get past him.

Well, it didn’t matter.

I only needed to care about Suzuno.

Today’s incident made me aware of that fact. If something were to happen to her, I didn’t think I could take it well.

Until now, she had been living painfully. I needed to change that.

‘Don’t worry. I’ll keep my promise to you, Shinigami-san.’

After I showed him my determination, the shinigami gave out a satisfied smile and disappeared. I went back to my sleep soon after.
